Frequently Asked Questions
All of our bars are made in small batches by hand, using the Cold Process method. Liquid and solid oils are combined with sodium hydroxide (lye), which causes a chemical reaction and turns into soap! Although lye is a chemical, it is the necessary catalyst that makes our bars harden. Never fear though! Once the soap has finished curing (4-6 weeks), every trace of lye has saponified and the chemical no longer exists. Fun fact: did you know that some foods are also processed with lye?
While we don’t specifically cater to different skin needs, rest assured that there are no harsh chemicals used in our ingredients. The colorings and fragrances used are sourced only from ethically sound companies, lab tested, and are never used in excess of the IFRA Maximum Skin Exposure Level recommendations. We also offer unscented soap, for those who do not wish to take the risk.
Our bars begin the curing process at approximately 4.5 ounces. Water will evaporate throughout the drying process, leaving the finished product at approximately 3.75 ounces and 3”L, 3.5”H, 1”W. Because our soaps are handcrafted, these weights, dimensions, and colors may vary—no two bars are identical.
